The first meeting of the Steering Committee on the implementation of the Framework Document on Sustainable Development Cooperation between the UN and Azerbaijan for the years 2021-2025 was held under the co-chairmanship of Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Ishaqzai.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Economy emphasized the efficient cooperation of our country with the specialized agencies of the UN and its contribution to the implementation of global programs. It was reported that Azerbaijan is the first country in the region to submit the 3rd Voluntary National Report to the UN on the results of the work done in connection with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) arising from the UN's "Transformation of our World: Sustainable Development Agenda". The presentation of the report will be held on behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan at the High-Level Political Forum held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council in July of this year.
At the meeting, it was noted that the Framework Document, being an important tool in the financing of SDGs in our country, will create a favorable basis for the reforms and the implementation of projects in the direction of realizing national priorities.
Ghulam Ishaqzai, the resident coordinator of the UN in Azerbaijan, said that the organization will continue to support the Government of Azerbaijan in the elimination of socio-economic difficulties caused by the pandemic and the restoration of our territories freed from occupation, and stressed the confidence that our country will continue to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs.
At the event, joint work plans for the implementation of the Framework Document for 2021 were approved, directions for expanding cooperation were discussed.
